Where's the Horizon?

Long before Steven Spielberg re-created the moment where he met legendary filmmaker John Ford for his semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans, the first time I became aware of the encounter was when Spielberg told the tale in the 2006 revised version of Peter Bogdanovich's documentary Directed by John Ford. The moment that has always lingered in my mind since hearing the story is of Ford telling Spielberg that the horizon line is more interesting at either the bottom or at the top of the frame than that of the middle. And that's the way I've always tried to approach my photography since then.
